Accessibility

The Children's Home Hub aims to make the platform usable by as many people as reasonably possible. We have built accessibility into our design and development process, and we continue to improve it based on feedback.

We have not yet undergone formal WCAG conformance testing. We do not claim a specific conformance level. This page describes the practical accessibility work we have completed and the known issues we are aware of.

• Keyboard navigation: the main navigation, search, forms and dialogs can be operated with the keyboard. The Escape key closes the mega menu, search drawer and feedback dialog.
• Responsive design: the site adapts to desktop, tablet and mobile screen sizes. Content reflows rather than requiring horizontal scrolling at standard viewport widths.
• Zoom: the site supports browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality at standard desktop viewport widths.
• Colour and contrast: we use a navy and pink colour palette designed for readability. We avoid communicating status through colour alone. Status badges include text labels.
• Text sizing: body text uses a readable base size. Headings use a clear hierarchy.
• Forms: form fields have associated labels. Required fields are indicated. Error messages are displayed inline.
• Images: content images include alt text where the image conveys information. Decorative images do not require alt text.
• Print: My Hub and key tool pages support printing with navigation and interactive elements hidden.

We are aware of the following areas that may need improvement:

• Some interactive tool components may have complex keyboard interactions that have not been fully tested with assistive technology.
• Focus management in some dialogs and dynamic content areas may not always return focus to the triggering element on close.
• The mobile navigation accordion has not been fully tested with screen readers.
• Some third-party components may have accessibility limitations outside our direct control.

We are working to address these issues and welcome your feedback to help us prioritise.
